Here Is What You Can Do To Transfer GPX File To Garmin

Here is how you can load a GPX file to a Garmin Bike GPS computer.

  1. You can download GPX file through an event website

You have to download the GPX file in order to have a copy on your computer. If you have ever been to a paid event, there are major chances that you have received an email from their side regarding the instructions about how to load the file. Otherwise you can look for a section about the route details and find a link which downloads the GPX file. You need to pay attention to where exactly your PC saves the files as you should be able to locate it later.

  1. Transfer GPX File To Garmin

This step appears to be a little tough but if you have done it once or twice then it’s rather easy. It is just like riding a bicycle. You already have GPX file on your computer, you just have to move it to Garmin device.

Follow these steps to do the above

You will have to connect Garmin to your PC using a USB cable. Check whether you can see the device and its memory card (if there is one). In a windows system, you can do it by clicking the My Computer icon two times. This will show you all the numerous drives in your PC, and also the attached storage devices.

Double click into the Garmin’s internal memory or on the SD card. You will be able to locate a folder by the name of Garmin. By double-clicking on this folder, you will notice a number of folders and one of them would be called NewFiles.

Here Is How You Can Copy Your GPX File In NewFiles Folder

You just have to drag and drop the file from your PC to this NewFiles window. You can also copy or paste it. Choose whatever is convenient for you.

You will have two windows open – the first is the window with GPX file which you downloaded and the other is the window which shows NewFiles folder on Garmin.

You will have to arrange the windows in such a way that you can see them on the screen simultaneously. You will have to drag the edges of the windows if you wish to resize them.

Once you see them both, you will have to click on GPX file and hold the mouse button down during dragging the file on the NewFiles window. This step is called drag and drop and it will copy the file for you.

Then right-click inside the NewFiles folder and select Paste from the options. It will also copy the file. You will be able to transfer the GPX file to Garmin using this method.

Disconnect & Then Start Garmin Once Again

The moment you restart Garmin, it will look into the NewFiles folder to check whether there are any new files or not.

If the software finds a GPX file in it, it will create a course which will appear in the Courses menu.

How Can You Access The Courses Menu

You just have to tap the Menu button followed by courses. You will be able to see the GPX course in the list.

This Too Is Important

Before beginning the course, you will have to manually alter the settings so that the unit provides you step-by-step instructions for you.

You will have to tap the spanner icon, and then choose the Turn Guidance option & ensure it is switched on.

Most of the people suggest to turn off the Virtual Partner function.
